Since 2005 the Dr. Walter J. Ernst, Jr. Veterinary Memorial Foundation (“the Foundation”) has supported relief efforts in the wake of disasters and emergencies. The Foundation assists in funding animal search and rescue, evacuation and sheltering efforts, as well as other activities as necessary, such as feeding in place and veterinary care. Additionally, the Foundation provides relief to veterinarians and veterinary staff affected by disasters and related support to ensure the availability of veterinary care in areas affected by disaster or emergency. The Foundation also funds ongoing training and preparation for future events.
Donations to the Greatest Need fund are used at the discretion of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation for the area of greatest need in the aftermath of events, whether that be direct relief for animals, relief to veterinarians and staff, support for rebuilding efforts, or related purposes.
